John Boyega is trading outer space for cyberspace in his next role.
The Star Wars: The Force Awakens star has signed on for the film adaptation of Dave Eggers’ The Circle, EW has confirmed. Boyega will star alongside Tom Hanks and Emma Watson in the project, and happily shared the news in a tweet.
According to Deadline, which was first to report the casting news, Boyega will play Ty, the “boy-wonder visionary” of an Internet company called the Circle. Watson plays a woman who lands a big job at the company, and her character and Boyega’s develop a relationship.
James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now) is directing the project from his own script, and also producing alongside Hanks and Gary Goetzman for Playtone and Anthony Bregman for Likely Story. Filming is due to begin next month in California.
Boyega will appear on screen next when The Force Awakens hits theaters on Dec. 18.
